Well, it was certainly a long day(s?) of traveling!
We - Spenser, Josh, Brian, Dr. Wraight, his wife Sarah, and I - left UM-Dearborn at about 4:50 yesterday, heading for our flight in Windsor. Thankfully, we took the tunnel to Canada so there wasn't much traffic. When we arrived at the airport, we were all blown away at how small it was! Professor Muller warned us that it was pretty tiny... But it was even smaller than I expected! Seriously, I couldn't believe it. We experienced a little bit of a delay there because of some rain that prevented our plane from arriving on time. A fellow traveler who said he was heading to Winnepeg from Toronto said that he was initially on the same flight as Dr. Wraight and Sarah but he got bumped to our flight because there was a chance the later flight would be delayed. I messaged Dr. Wraight to check with the people at the desk to see what was going on and they were moved to our flight. We had relatively smooth sailing - or rather, flying - from Windsor through Toronto and to Dublin.
The flight was rather long to Dublin, but I did get some sleep. I was so excited to see Ireland outside my window as we were landing! We got off the plane and were surprised to have to go through immigration and then through security. But It was so cool to have my passport stamped by the Irish immigration officer! Once we got through security, we got moving to our gate as fast as we could and right by our gate was a little pub. I walked in and looked at prices, and I had brought just enough Euros to get a pint of Guinness and a glass of Jameson - a tribute to my Irish heritage! The Guinness was indeed much better than the stuff I've had back home. I shared some with Spenser, too, because I knew I wouldn't be able to finish it all within ten minutes and I knew he wanted to have some while in Ireland too.
We got on our flight to Frankfurt, which went by pretty quickly. I even slept for maybe an hour. The Frankfurt airport though.... That was a different story. Although the Lufthansa worker in Dublin said we wouldn't have to, we had to again go through security - which had a much longer line. The security agent moved us to the "fast" lane which wasn't, you guessed it, "fast," but we made it through. Then we had to run through all the Z gates, go through immigration, go downstairs, and then run through all the A gates to get to our gate which was beginning to board. We were worried that not all of us would make it, but we did. It was our final stop till Krakow!
